This season, we are excitedly exploring a new business model that we hope will help smaller food producers in the area to market their products. Lately, several factors such as the loss of the supermarket in Hillsborough and the onset of the Covid-19 pandemic have underscored the difficulty of accessing fresh foods in our rural communities. At the start of the season, we reached out to food producers within New Brunswick to gauge their interest in participating in a consignment market. Over 40 vendors responded enthusiastically, and in June we opened the Fundy Fresh Community Market at the Artisans’ Village in Hillsborough. It’s an ideal situation for food producers who are too small or too busy to run their own retail space. The market is open 7 days a week until the end of October, from 10AM – 6PM, and carries a wide variety of seasonal produce, meats, cheeses, eggs, baked goods, teas, coffees, snacks and treats.
