At this workshop Alyson will discuss ways to work with Mother Nature to design a healthy and natural garden, including beneficial insects, companion planting, and other weed management tools. She will cover common challenges faced by organic gardeners and what to do about them, including preventing problems before they happen, using a variety of weed management tools and more.

Alyson Chishlom-2

Alyson is not from a farm but worked on farms in Canada and overseas, eventually joining a group of people in Abbotsford, BC, to form a co-op and buy and run an organic vegetable farm. She ran her own business there selling salad greens and eggs for almost 10 years before meeting Will and moving to NB to run their own farm in McKees Mills, Windy Hill Farm. Now Alyson and Will run a 100 member CSA, sell their vegetables at a farmer’s market and also raise goats for meat and milk. Alyson teaches an organic gardening course in Moncton each spring to anyone interested in learning how to get started in organic vegetable growing.

The workshop will start with a short presentation indoors at the Forest Dale Nursing Home followed by some hands-on time in the community garden. There will be light refreshments. This workshop will be free/pay what you can, with a suggested donation of 10$. To register, please send the name, phone number and email address of each participant registering to Elizabeth at [email protected] or you can contact her at 875-5841.
