Firing up the Cob Oven!

oven fire1

Foods of the Fundy Valley has fired up its new Cob Oven at the Albert County Museum in Hopewell Cape!

The Cob Oven was a collaborative project between Foods of the Fundy Valley, the Albert County Museum, and the community as a whole.  Sourced from all natural and local re-purposed materials from the Museum site and the Bay of Fundy, this is truly a local creation that will be the center of attraction at our Farmers’ Market, held every Saturday at the Museum.

Built by volunteers of all ages from the community, we have constructed an oven capable of heating to 1000°F.

Our first Pizza event on Saturday, July 26, was a smashing success, with almost 80 pizzas served!  Thanks to ringleader Marion Steeves, Pizza Chef Moira Wissink, Sous Chefs Lisa Brown and Vickey Bell, and general helpers, gofers and supporters Tammy Carlin, Mindy Liptay, Dejah Morcom and Lynne Greenblatt!

Our second event on August 2 was just as successful – good news/bad news is that we sold out!  On August 16, we will be making pita bread in the oven.  We will have donairs, pita pizzas, and veggie pitas available.  The next regular pizza event is scheduled for August 30.  Watch this space (or our facebook page) for what’s cooking at the next market day.
